The idea that fat suits are necessary because sometimes people are the “best fit” for a part but aren’t fat themselves is ludicrous.
If someone is nothing like the character they are meant to portray, and cannot portray them without either the character being rewritten or without the actor having to do fatphobic or otherwise oppressive things (yellowface and blackface both come to mind, not that they are in any way the same thing), then they are not the best fit.
Plenty of talented fat people exist. Fat people who could play their part beautifully and flawlessly and can really make you believe they are their character.
Hollywood choosing to ignore those fat people or not give them opportunities is not a sign that they were a bad fit. It’s a sign that Hollywood is lazy and fatphobic.
And @thisisthinprivilege already went through alternatives to fat suits. They exist. Hollywood is not without options.
There is no excuse for fat suits. Stop trying to make them.
