Accusing someone of internalized homophobia because they disagree with you is FUCKED UP
This post is because I just saw someone say a gay guy romancing a character they don’t like probably has internalized homophobia but also? This applies to ace discourse and bi discourse. Stop fucking flinging the term “internalized homophobia” around as a weapon against other queer people that have opinions you don’t like. All you’re proving is that you don’t actually care about other gay people.
Reasons you should say someone has internalized homophobia:
- They are an individual who experiences same-sex attraction, but also have stances that contribute to the oppression of others who experience same-sex attraction, varying from actively thinking being gay is sinful, to opposing gay marriage, and saying they aren’t like “other gay people” as if “other gay people” are somehow wrong or dirty.
Not reasons you should say someone has internalized homophobia:
- They don’t think ace/aro/bi people are evil like you do
- They enjoy a character/pairing you don’t

(The same applies to any internalized isms. A woman does not suffer from internalized misogyny just because she wants to bang a video game character you personally find pretentious and condescending. Get a grip, people.)
