how come no one talks about those days where your mental health just crashes down randomly and you start feeling ashamed of yourself because you were doing so good and now you feel like a complete failure because you can’t figure out where you went wrong.

bruh this is me for the last 5 months

Do you ever become desensitized to your own trauma?? Like you’ve been dealing with it for so long that when you accidentally let it slip out in conversation and the persons like “um oh my god?” You’re like wow I forgot my life has been one unspeakable horror after another #noted

okay my life

You don’t have to be grateful that it isn’t worse.

read that.

read it again, and again, and again.

somebody, somewhere, always has it worse than you. there is one person on this planet that has it the worst of all, and that person is NOT the only person allowed to be unhappy with their lot.

if things are bad for you, they are bad for you. period.

This goes for trauma as well. A lot of times survivors get trapped in a cycle of  minimizing/diminishing their trauma because “other people have it worse” – but there is no hierarchy of trauma. There is no ranking system for which traumas are “better” or “worse.” Your trauma is valid. Period.

IMPORTANT TRUTHS.

As a therapist, lemme just say: almost every trauma survivor I’ve ever had has at some point said “But I didn’t have it as bad as some people” and then talked about how other types of trauma are worse. Even my most-traumatized, most-abused, most psychologically-injured clients say this.

The ones who were cheated on, abandoned, and neglected say this. The ones who were in dangerous accidents/disasters say this. The ones who were horrifyingly sexually abused say this. The ones who were brutally beaten say this. The ones who were psychologically tortured for decades say this. What does that tell you? That one of the typical side-effects of trauma is to make you believe that you are unworthy of care.

Don’t buy into it, because it’s nonsense. It doesn’t matter if someone else had it “worse.” Every person who experiences a trauma deserves to get the attention and care they need to heal from it.

“one of the typical side-effects of trauma is to make you believe that you are unworthy of care.”

SO true.

just because someone broke their arm doesn’t mean you have to deal with wrist pain

About a week ago I posted this.

I’ve been getting horrible messages like this in my ask for months, including:

and my personal favorite

After getting the message saying “Just go kill yourself” I was completely done dealing with this person’s horrible messages and replied with just an “Okay.” and logged off tumblr.

About a week later I logged back on with 17 messages in my ask, most of them from the anon. I scrolled down and at first when I logged off, the anon messaged me things like

I scrolled up more and all of a sudden they started sending me more and more messages like

This was extremely surprising to me. I thought “After all those horrible messages you sent to me for MONTHS about hating me and wanting me dead, you say ‘sorry’ and that you ‘cant be responsible for someone’s suicide’?”

But I guess the lesson goes like this:

DONT TELL ANYONE TO KILL THEMSELVES UNLESS YOU ARE PREPARED FOR WHAT MIGHT ACTUALLY HAPPEN

bunney:

not to be controversial but like……. there is literally no reason for any movie or show to have a rape scene in it. there is literally no reason to show that to anyone. and before you hit me with the “but it helps bring light to the subject!!!!! its better than being silent on the matter!!!!” find a better way. dont use a violent act such as that for shock value. there are way better ways to portray or shed light on that issue in media without forcing people to watch something so triggering.

hey there’s actually no such thing as a good or bad addict! you can’t “support” rich white suburban kids with depression who had dental surgery and then got hooked on opiates if you’re going to ignore homeless addicts or black addicts or addicts whose use began recreationally or addicts who have cycled in and out of treatment centers or literally any person suffering from a substance use disorder, at all, ever

Thin person: You mother fucking lard ass, you whale sized lazy ass b!tch, you walrus, you useless tub of lard, you walrus looking fat ass disgusting piece of garbage, you ugly ass fattie, you unloveable grotesque freak, you fucking fat sloppy looking fuckhead, literally no one makes fun of fat people, shut up and quit whining lol.

Thin person: Just because literally all businesses, including architecture businesses, the fashion industry, furniture makers, and literally everyone else doesn’t make stuff with you in mind, and just because doctors regularly insult or harass you or misdiagnose you because of your weight, and just because therapists blame your mental health issues on your weight, and just because people are always making assumptions about you because of your weight, and just because people literally make blogs dedicated to talking about how they want you dead or sharing pictures of people who look like you without their permission to laugh at their appearance and make cruel jokes, and just because the media is always trying to inslut you or make you look bad, and just because people would rather die than be your size, doesn’t mean fatphobia is real.

Me:

Thin person: Why change the culture so that weight and health are both seen as totally neutral instead of as moral failures, and make is so that your weight or health status have no effect on your worth as a person? If you want to be treated as human, wouldn’t it be easier to just stop being fat?

Me:

[Gif Description: Lena Luthor of CW’s Supergirl, staring in confusion and then thinking hard while looking frustrated. Me:

Thin person: I respect your right to call out thin people who are shitty but not every thin person is like that and you need to specify in your every post that you aren’t talking about thin people like me or else you are insulting me personally and that makes you just as bad as people who harass and attack you and-

Thin person: I would support fat acceptance but you’re so mean about it, like, can’t you ask to be treated like a human but like, quietly? You should really think more about my feelings and stop being so selfish-
