Can we PLEASE remove the stigma for blue collar work in America?
“You don’t wanna be a garbage collector when you grow up, do you?”
$34,000 a year, no college needed?
God forbid you take an honest job $7,000 above Michigan’s average cost of living line.
“You don’t wanna be a ditch digger.”
Bitch, I was making $15 an hour, post tax, doing exactly that, the fuck is wrong with it? (Other than it was physically exhausting.)
We need to help America, as a whole, understand that college is not, and should not be he only option, and that there is NO SHAME in trade school or even getting a career right out of high school.
I, personally, know plumbers making $80,000+ a year. Better than most 4 year degree workers.
We need plumbers, janitors, truck-drivers, garbage collectors, machinists, to keep this nation running smoothly. And they deserve respect for what they do.
Miss me with your classist bullshit.
“You cannot demand services and then degrade those who provide those services.”
Not sure who said that it but it has always stuck with me because hell it is so true.
So yesterday I was at my local pride and there were a few things that bugged me:
1. A large part of it was on grass which is very non-accessible and the park had porta-potties but of course these were also non-accessible – somehow nobody considered this in planning the event
2. The local drag queens wanted to wear heels during the parade, of course. However, the parade was over a cobbled area and they knew their feet would hurt. Their solution? HIRE MOBILITY SCOOTERS. there is 1 shop in the city that lets you hire them and many people need them, yet they used them just because they wanted to wear heels without their feet hurting.
What if someone else couldn’t go to pride because all the scooters had already been hired out to people? Someone who actually needs one to participate? THE WHOLE POINT IS THAT THEYRE FOR PEOPLE WHO NEED THEM. THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH FOR US AS IT IS SO PLEASE DONT TAKE THEM IF YOU DONT NEED THEM
(I will say that the volunteeers there were amazing though – I was taken ill in the afternoon and the ambulance crew on site were amazing, as well as the security – it was peaceful so it was all minimised well)
reasons that i was going 9 mph over the speed limit today: the lumberjack in the big red chevy truck behind me on this double-lined road was in a hurry and also was using a slightly more powerful bluetooth radio to play his music, but he was using the same frequency that i use, and he was just playing Party In The Usa onrepeat, so every time he caught up to me my music started fading out and “i pUT MY HANDS UP THEY’RE PLAYIN MY SONG” started blaring from my speakers and i was justly running for my fucking life
you know what space travel media is sorely lacking in? superstitions.
don’t give me any bs about future enlightenment eradicating superstition humans are humans and we can barely conceptually handle the sea let alone the Void where there’s far too much room for the mind to wander
on the sea you never stack the cans with the label upside down, lest the ship capsize
in the stars you never crush the cans, lest the fragile walls between you and the abyss be crushed
