Hey there! So I would look specifically for low light plants. If you get anything that wants medium or bright light you are going to have a hard time. Most people recommend succulents for low maintenance plants but since you have low lighting conditions and most succulents like warmer, bright conditions you may want to stay away unless you have a bright window you can stick them in. Some recommendations:

ZZ Plant

ZZ Plants are great! They tolerate (and even thrive) in dry environments (so if you forget to water, its no big deal) and they love low light conditions. Plus they are super pretty!

Snake Plant aka Mother In Law’s Tongue

Also handles really well in dry conditions and also is great under pretty much any lighting. These are great beginner plants because they are super hardy and can take a bit of neglect. They come in a few different color variations and can grow to be pretty tall if you give them the room! Good at providing clean air too.

Ivy

One of my favorites! Algerian and English ivies specifically do really well in low to moderate light and are low maintenance. You just let the soil dry out between waterings and they are good to go. When the vines get a little too long you can prune and propagate new plants from the vines. I have a huge ivy plant and I love her dearly. These little beauties are also great at improving the air quality in your home.

Porthos, aka Devil’s Ivy

Another one of my favorites! Few different color variations and the huge leaves on this make it a stunner. Has basically the same care instructions as the ivy above. They can also grow to be super long, but grow way slower then English Ivy. I have had to trim my Ivy yearly while my Porthos I have never had to trim, and I got them at the same time. They climb in the wild but if they don’t have anything to climb they will hang. Easy to propagate as well.

Philodendron

Now this is not a plant that I have and have ever had so I don’t have any first hand experience but I have heard they are great beginner plants, because the leaves will tell you a lot. They look similar to porthos but are different plants, although I have seen them placed side by side as well as planted in the same pot and they look stunning together.

Lucky Bamboo

SUPER easy to take care of. You can literally just stick them in water and they are really chill, and you can find them everywhere (like grocery stores) shaped in fun designs.

Monstera

OK OK OK I really want one of these babies but can never find them at my local nursery and it drives me crazy. LOOK AT THOSE LEAVES. Plus you only need to water them when the soil is dry so they are low maintenance and require low to medium light.

Peace Lily

If you like a bit of flower on your plants, this is your plant. Easy to care for, and doesn’t mind low light conditions one bit. Known for removing some toxic gasses from the air as well.

Prayer Plant

Want some fun leaves? This is your plant. And they stay fairly small so they are good on a bookshelf or nightstand.

Spider Plants

Another favorite of mine. And they live a long time too. My mom has one that I have cuttings from that is over 20+ years old. We don’t know exactly. Its old though. but they grow little offshoots that you can put in water or soil and let root and then give to friends so these make great little plants and can also make great future gifts! They require a little water and low to medium light and they will thrive and be happy. You can also get them in few different varieties. Another plant that is great at improving your household air quality!

Chinese Evergreen

These handsome little guys are also really hardy. It does prefer a medium light but does do ok in lower light (i have mine in my bedroom and it does fine). Bonus: its great at cleaning the air.

Bromeliads

Last one I promise. This little guy can live on only florescent lighting and can be quite colorful!  Great no fuss plant and are gorgeous as well! If you want brighter colors though they will need a bit more light, but indirect light is perfect for them. I do have one of these in my office (which gets no natural light) and it does fine.

I’ll stop there because this post is long and picture heavy but hopefully that gives you some ideas! If you want something that grows taller you can also look into ficus because they don’t generally mind lower light areas but I do better with mine in medium to bright indirect light. Avoid video games that use extrinsic motivation. A video game should at least mostly rely on intrinsic motivation, meaning that the playing of the game itself is the fun part, not the reward you get for playing the game. If you don’t enjoy the gameplay, but you want to earn lootboxes, you’ve fallen into the intentionally exploitative system operating within so many games nowadays, and you need to find another game, because you’re not having fun.

It doesn’t sound serious, but this kind of thing can make depression way worse if you’ve already got depression.

this is true and i never thought about it. It’s that feeling of needing to check off all the boxes, without any actual enjoyment of it. It’s a very autistic problem for me; i crave pattern completion, but it can come at too high a cost.

yo, by the way, don’t buy anything from Fabletics. i just got off the phone with my credit card company, and although i’ve managed to reverse the unauthorized $49.95 they charged me this month, they’ve apparently been doing this since february. let me repeat that, they’ve taken $200 from me and not made it known. all because i bought a pair of on sale leggings a few months back.

so, every few weeks they have a sale. generally a “buy 2 for the price of one if you sign up for free!” sort of thing. like a regular old clothing retailer, you add your items to the cart, say sure, you’ll give them your email address to save your details, and then enter your payment information. then you get your stuff a couple weeks later. but what they don’t mention is this fun little bit of fine print:

yeah, they save your credit card number. and charge it repeatedly. (even more concerningly, i had my old card that i used for the original purchase cancelled a couple months ago after some unauthorized payments started cropping up. i haven’t interacted with Fabletics since, but somehow, they’re charging my new card?)

it should also be noted that they also send out about 4 marketing emails per day, and this is what your “payment notification” looks like.

hint: it’s the middle one. which looks just like a regular promo email.

long story short, they draw you in with a sale, ask you to sign up for an account, and then start quietly charging you $50 a month that you can only get back if you get in touch with them within a couple of days. also, even if you try cancelling over the phone or through a live chat, they’ll hassle you to keep your membership and word everything cryptically.

ah, yeah, and a lot of people are still getting charged after cancelling their memberships. i mean hundreds. and Fabletics refuses to refund their “subscription.” it’s literally a scam.

tl;dr, don’t buy from Fabletics, and if you do, very carefully monitor your credit card bill for months afterwards. don’t be like me and get scammed out of $200 without knowing it. (my card provider is currently contacting Fabletics in an attempt to get that hefty chunk of cash refunded, but who knows if i’ll get it back. probably not.)
